THE CANCER WARRIOR
“Not Just Surviving, Thriving”
Welcome to my journey …….Im using this space to make an attempt to talk about my fight with T-cell Lymphoma. I wasn’t sure uptil now if I wanted to or if indeed I was ready to share my story with the world. But I think I’m ready now. And I’m resolved that no one should suffer in silence.
I have kept this part of my life private, not a secret, but private until I was sure that fully ready and able to discuss it. It takes time to accept it and the process can be very emotionally draining. But realise fully well that I have a role to raise awareness and helping others tackle this better prepared. Lymphoma is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada. If I can make people more aware of what to look for and what someone might be going through, then I’ve turned this experience into a positive one 💪🏼
About Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)
- It’s a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the body’s immune system.
- It usually starts in lymph nodes or other lymph tissue, but can sometimes affect the skin.
- There are 2 types of Lymphoma – B-cell vs. T-cell
- Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) is a rare type of lymphoma that mainly affects the skin.
- The diagnosis of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) along with SPTCL is an indication of a more aggressive cancer and may influence long-term outcome.
- Women are more likely to be diagnosed than men, and the average age of diagnosis is in the mid-30s. Both children and adults can develop SPTCL.
